Renowned Ugandan Dancehall artist Cinderella Sanyu, popularly known as Cindy Sanyu, has come forward to explain why she did not attend the Yoweri Music album launch, an event organized by Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president Eddy Kenzo.

The launch attracted several artists from both UNMF and Uganda Musicians Association (UMA).

Acording to the Boom Party singer, she had initially been informed that the gathering was a meeting with the President to discuss matters affecting the music industry. However, it turned out to be an album launch instead.

Cindy clarified that her absence was not intentional, as she had a scheduled performance in Arua on the same day. Despite the mix-up, she emphasized her continued commitment to working with the Federation to achieve shared goals for the music industry.

She also reiterated that UMA, which she leads, has not merged with Kenzo’s UNMF. Instead, the two bodies have formed a working partnership. While differences remain between them, Cindy said they share key objectives such as advocating for copyright reform and improving conditions in the music industry

When asked about entering politics, Cindy acknowledged that she has a large following of fans who look up to her for guidance. While she admitted that this influence could extend into the political realm, she made it clear that for now, her focus remains on music, not politics.

Addressing the possibility of performing at political events during the campaign season, Cindy noted that she has supporters across different political affiliations. She said appearing in support of one side might alienate others, so she must be strategic and assess whether such performances add value to her brand.

Cindy also explained why she doesn’t frequently appear at other musicians’ shows. She said she’s willing to support fellow artists but only does so when personally invited. As an example, she mentioned Rema, who reached out to her and received her full support at a recent event.

Regarding the recent incident where a fan allegedly stole her wedding ring during a performance, Cindy downplayed the matter. She said she understands the intense admiration fans have for their favorite artists and doesn’t want to dwell on it.
