The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has summoned renowned Ugandan singer Chosen Becky, real name Rebecca Kukiriza, over allegations that she used children in a controversial act during her private wedding ceremony.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry said it had taken note of widely shared photos and reports from a wedding held on December 15, where children were allegedly made to carry placards with messages aimed at adults. Officials say the act may have exposed the children to emotional distress, public backlash and online exploitation.

While acknowledging the right to privacy, family life and freedom of expression, the Ministry stressed that children must never be dragged into adult disputes or publicity stunts.
“Children are innocent, vulnerable and entitled to protection, dignity and care, regardless of disagreements between adults,” the statement reads.
The Ministry noted that the incident raises serious concerns under the Children Act and the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019. The laws require that the best interests of a child come first in all actions involving children and protect them from emotional, psychological and social harm, including harmful publicity.

Officials further warned that sharing images of children in controversial situations, especially on social media, may amount to a violation of the law.
Chosen Becky has been directed to appear before the Office of the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs at the Ministry headquarters on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, for a formal engagement.
During the meeting, she is expected to:
– Withdraw the actions involving children
– Issue a public apology acknowledging that children should not be used in adult disagreements
– Submit a written commitment not to involve children in personal or social disputes, online or offline
– Delete and ensure removal of all related content involving children from social media
The Ministry also cautioned public figures, artists, influencers and socialites that fame does not place anyone above child protection laws.
“The Ministry will not hesitate to take legal and administrative action against anyone found misusing children for publicity or content that undermines their welfare,” the statement warned.

The notice was signed by State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, reaffirming government commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of every child.
