Central Kenya’s Tycoons And Billionaires

Kenya is an East African Country with a population of more than 47.6million people and 28th populous country in the whole world and 7th most populous in Africa. The country’s largest and capital city is Nairobi while it’s oldest and second largest city is Mombasa which is situated on Mombasa Island in the Indian Ocean and the surrounding mainland.

The country’s Economy has over the years continued to grow and with different social classes, the following are the top richest, tycoons and Kenya’s billionaires.

1. James Mwangi

Well known as the face of Equity Bank, He is currently the CEO and Managing Director of Equity Group Holdings Limited, a post he has held since 2019. He is an accountant, businessman, banker and entrepreneur with a networth of $170million  which he earnes from his significant stake in the Equity group.

Born in 1962,in Kangema Kenya, James Mwangi attended Kagumo High School, Kenyatta University and University of Nairobi. He is believed to have been included among the ‘Financial Times ‘ 2009 list of the top 50 thought leaders of emerging markets and the top most influential people in Africa.

2. Bhimji Depar Shah

A Kenyan businessman, industrialist and entrepreneur. Bhimji Depar Shah is the founder and chairman of Bidco Africa which is a Kenyan manufacturing company. He is with an estimated networth of around 750million dollars and according to Forbes ranking, he is the richest man in Kenya and the 31st richest man in Africa.

Bhimji Depar Shah was born in Cairo Egypt in 1931 and later settled in Kenya (Nyeri) where he opened up a petrol station in the town and started Bidco Industries Limited a garments manufacturing business which later in 1991 opened up an edible oil manufacturing plant in Thika.

3. Manu Chandaria

Born on 1st March 1929, He is a Kenyan businessman of Indian descent who was born in Nairobi.

Manu Chandaria is senior member of the Comcraft Group of Companies which is a million dollar enterprise that has a presence in over 40 countries, and he is also on boards of several prominent East African Countries.

With a net-worth of $2.5billion, Chandaria has won a-lot of awards in East Africa in recognition of his entrepreneurial endeavors and he is also a celebrated philanthropist.

4. Baloobhai Patel

A businessman and Entrepreneur in Kenya. Baloobhai Patel is the current Managing Director of Transworld Safaris Limited and he owns the company.

With an estimated net worth of approximately 4 billion, he also owns minority stakes in a number of publicly listed companies at the Nairobi Securities Exchange hence one of Kenya’s wealthiest citizens.

 

5. Chris Kirubi

The late Chris Kirubi was born in Kenya Muranga County on 20th August 1941 and died on 14th June 2021 (Colon Cancer). He was a Kenyan businessman, entrepreneur, industrialist and was the Managing Director of Centum Investment Company, a business conglomerate where he was the largest shareholder.

By the time of his death, he was with an estimated net worth of $301million.

6. Naushad Merali

With a fortune of edtimated net worth of 89. 6billion Kenyan shillings which is approximately $790million Merali led the list of the wealthiest people in Kenya as of November 2021.

Born on 2nd January 1951 and died on 3rd July 2021, he was the founder of the Kenyan mobile service provider Kencell along with French Media Giant.

 

7. Uhuru Kenyatta

Born on 26th October 1961, Uhuru Kenyatta is a Kenyan politician who served as the country’s forth President from 2013 to 2022 and he is the don of Jomo Jenyatta.

Before becoming President, he formerly served as Kenya’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and he is of an estimated net worth of $500million making him one of the country’s richest citizens.

With the above business Moguls/Tycoons, Kenya is believed to be a first developing country and they have contributed a huge sum unto Kenya’s Economy.
