Veteran singer Buchaman, real name Mark Bugembe, has opened up about losing ownership of all the music he released during his time at Dream Studios and Firebase Crew.
Speaking in an interview with ME Media, Buchaman revealed that most artists from the older generation were exploited because they didn’t understand copyright laws at the time.

He says many of their hit songs were controlled by record labels, leaving artists with nothing to benefit from today.
“I don’t own any copyright to the songs I did under Firebase and Dream Studios. The labels own everything. I can only perform the songs, but I don’t have the rights to sell or upload them. If I upload them online, they are taken down,” Buchaman said.
He noted that several legendary artists worked under old record labels such as Gagamel, Firebase, and Leone Island, and many of them are currently struggling financially despite having big songs that are still popular.

Buchaman believes that if Uganda’s copyright laws are revised and properly implemented, artists will be able to reclaim the rights to their music and earn from their hard work.
“Many artists today would be benefiting from their classic music if we owned the rights. Copyright law reforms can help us get what we deserve,” he added.
