Hon. Balaam Barugahara, the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs and a renowned events promoter, recently revealed that he achieved financial success at a remarkably young age becoming a millionaire while still in Primary Seven and a billionaire by the time he entered university.

In an exclusive interview with New Vision, Balaam shared key milestones from his entrepreneurial journey. He said he acquired his first housing units in 2007 at just 28 years old.

That same year, he received a call from his friend, Ugandan billionaire Sudhir Ruparelia, who congratulated him on reaching billionaire status a milestone Balaam attributes to years of disciplined saving and hard work, especially during the era of the now-defunct Crane Bank.

Balaam also recalled his time as a student at Original Progressive Senior Secondary School, where he was awarded a bursary. Despite the scholarship, he contributed to the school by supplying food items like beans and posho, showcasing his business mindset early on.

At university, he maintained a balance between academics and entrepreneurship.

“I studied for one year and worked for two. That’s how I managed to grow my businesses while pursuing my degree,” he explained.

He emphasized that while making money is a passion, he’s committed to doing so through ethical means.

“I love making money, but I don’t believe in theft. Everything I have is the result of hard work,” he stated.

Balaam is a well-known figure in Uganda, particularly in the entertainment and media sectors, where he has been active for over a decade. He also runs several businesses across Uganda and East Africa.
