Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has accused opposition MP Betty Nambooze of secretly receiving close to one billion shillings from President Yoweri Museveni to cover medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
Speaking at a presidential campaign rally in Mukono ahead of the January 15 elections, Among said the funds covered travel and medical expenses for Nambooze, her husband Bakireke, and a domestic worker.

She described the assistance as a compassionate gesture from Museveni, given Nambooze’s ongoing criticism of the government and the ruling NRM on TV and radio.
“I want to thank you for having such a heart,” Among said, praising the President. Despite Nambooze publicly attacking and insulting you, that does not take away your good heart.
Among also criticized opposition leaders, accusing them of hypocrisy:

“Opposition leaders should not lie to voters that they don’t benefit from the NRM. We work with them and share what little we have, but when they return to the public, they demonize the ruling party for their own selfish interests.”
She urged Mukono residents and Ugandans nationwide to vote for President Museveni, calling him the best choice to lead the country forward.
By press time, Nambooze had not responded to the allegations.
