The bitter fallout between Kampala Woman MP Hon. Shamim Malende and her former partner Andrew Ssebunya has taken a sensational turn, with fresh claims about what allegedly triggered their very public split.
In a startling press statement this week, Ssebunya alleged that he caught Malende in a compromising situation with popular Ugandan comedian Reign Omusoyisoyi real name Lubega Obed at the Grand Global Hotel in Makerere, Kikoni at around 2 a.m. just last month.
“I didn’t hear it from anyone. I saw it myself,I walked in, and there they were.”Ssebunya asserted.
According to Ssebunya, the confrontation followed a tip from a friend who had allegedly seen Malende and Reign check in under false names. Suspicious and concerned, he rushed to the hotel a known spot for celebrities and university elites and claims he confirmed his worst fears.
“I asked the receptionist about the names, and after some hesitation, they gave me the room number. I knocked, and Shamim opened the door, visibly shocked. Behind her, Reign was shirtless,” he recounted.
While these allegations remain unverified with no CCTV footage or hotel statement released Ssebunya says the incident marked the final blow to their already strained relationship.
“I stayed silent out of respect for her position and for our past.But now that she’s accusing me of hacking her social media and threatening her, I can’t keep quiet anymore.”,he said.
Neither Shamim Malende nor Reign has publicly addressed the claims. However, she recently posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter), referencing “betrayal, manipulation, and political sabotage from those closest to me,” prompting speculation that she may soon respond.
Online, the scandal has sparked a frenzy. The hashtag #GrandGlobalSaga trended on Ugandan Twitter, with users split between defending Malende and accusing Ssebunya of orchestrating a smear campaign.
Political analysts warn the controversy could impact Malende’s public image, especially as she eyes re-election. Known for her progressive, independent stance, the MP now faces a personal crisis that may overshadow her political work.
Meanwhile, comedian Reign Omusoyisoyi famous for his biting satire has remained silent. Attempts to reach him for comment were unsuccessful by press time.
As the drama unfolds, one thing is clear: the Malende-Ssebunya breakup has erupted into a full-blown scandal, with potential consequences far beyond their personal lives.
