Andrew Mwenda: Museveni Could Still Contest for Presidency in 2035 and 2041, He is only 81 Years Young

Veteran journalist and political commentator Andrew Mwenda has sparked debate after suggesting that President Yoweri Museveni, now 81, may still run for the presidency in future elections  possibly even in 2035 and 2041.

In a thought-provoking social media post, Mwenda drew parallels between Museveni and Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, who at 92 was recently declared the winner of another seven-year term, extending his rule to nearly a century of age.

“Paul Biya, 92 years, has won another seven-year term as president of Cameroon. He will be 99 years at the next election. Museveni is only 81 years young. He is likely to run again in 2035 at 91 years, and even in 2041 when he will be 96. Some food for thought there!”,Mwenda wrote.

Mwenda’s comments appear to echo President Museveni’s own confidence in his longevity and fitness to serve. Earlier this year, while speaking during a Parish Development Model tour, Museveni revealed that his family believes he could live to be 100 years old.

“I am 80 years old, and my daughters recently told me I am likely to reach 100 years,” he said at the time. “That means I still have about 20 years on earth. Then I will leave and go to heaven.”

Current President of Uganda: Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

Known for his disciplined lifestyle, Museveni neither smokes nor drinks and maintains a simple diet consisting mainly of cassava, bananas, and millet. His enduring physical strength and continued focus on Uganda’s political and security agenda, particularly regional integration, suggest that his political journey may still be far from over.
