Ugandan singer Gloria Busingye alias Gloria Bugie, has threatened to take legal action against events organizer and talent manager Abitex following her recent arrest.
She accuses him of slander and of orchestrating her arrest without sufficient evidence.
A few weeks ago, Abitex publicly vowed to have Bugie arrested as a lesson to other young artists. On the night of her arrest, she was charged with circulating a nude video of herself that surfaced online weeks prior. However, she was released later that evening after spending a few hours in police custody.
In an interview with the press, Bugie claimed that Abitex had bribed police officers to arrest her on fabricated charges.
She also accused him of using the police to target her over the alleged video. Bugie explained that the video in question was taken last year by a man who later extorted money from her. When she involved the authorities, the man fled the country.
Bugie strongly denied being responsible for releasing the tape, reiterating that she had already clarified the situation in a previous press conference, where she revealed that she was actively pursuing the person who had leaked the video.
“Abitex should come to the police with actual evidence next time. We are now preparing to sue him for slander and for having me arrested without any proof that I leaked the video. I’ve made it clear to the public that I wasn’t behind the tape’s release, and that the person responsible is the one we’re chasing,” Bugie said.
