Kalifah Aganaga Prepares for Another Run in Kawempe North By-Elections

This week, Uganda’s High Court nullified the election of Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North in Kampala.

The ruling followed a successful petition filed by NRM’s Nambi Farida Kigongo, challenging the legality of the March 2025 by-election.

Presiding Judge Bernard Namanya determined that the election did not comply with the Parliamentary Elections Act, citing irregularities significant enough to influence the final results. As a result, Luyimbazi’s election has been annulled.

Despite the ruling, Nalukoola has already filed a notice of appeal to the Court of Appeal, aiming to overturn the decision.

Meanwhile, political aspirants are already expressing interest in contesting should a new by-election be called. Among them is singer-turned-politician Mukiibi Sadat, popularly known as Kalifah Aganaga, who previously ran on the FDC ticket during the March by-election, which followed the passing of MP Muhammad Segirinya in January.

Aganaga confirmed his intention to run again via social media, expressing dissatisfaction with the court’s ruling but signaling readiness for the contest.

“BANO TEBASWALA. KAWEMPE NORTH FOR MUKIIBI SADAT 🔑 #ProtestVote,” he posted.
