Rachael Magoola, the MP for Bugweri and renowned singer with the Afrigo Band, has urged the Ugandan government, especially the Uganda Police, to address what she sees as a growing erosion of cultural values linked to the rise of indecent dressing among musicians.

Magoola, famous for her 1990s hit Obangaina, highlighted the need to protect Uganda’s traditional values, particularly in the face of changing cultural influences on the younger generation.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting at Fairway Hotel in Kampala, which focused on addressing child sexual violence, she expressed concern over the impact of public figures’ revealing outfits on youth behavior.

Magoola argued that the trend of musicians performing in skimpy clothing has normalized indecency, influencing not only young people but also adults.

She specifically pointed to the widespread exposure of semi-nude performers as contributing to the degradation of societal norms.

“The police must take action against these performers,” Magoola asserted. “How can we expect young people, especially girls, and even adults, to dress decently when they see public figures, including their mothers, dressing this way?”,she said

She further criticized the current state of Uganda’s value system, saying it seems increasingly disconnected from the country’s cultural roots. Magoola called for a return to traditional values, stressing that such a shift could help preserve societal norms threatened by modern trends.
