Uganda as a Country has people with different classes and has therefore witnessed growth over the years in several fields and one of them is family wealth. However here, we take you through some of the top five richest families in Uganda.
1. The Ruparelia Family
With a net worth of 1.2 billion dollars, Sudhir Ruparelia who is also known as Uganda’s business magnet, his has harvested huge sums of monies especially from their Ruparelia Group of companies where they own the majority shares and also invested in the banking sectors, insurance, education, broadcasting, Real Estate to mention but a few.
Married to Jyotsna with whom they sired three kids, the family also owns a luxurious mansion situated on kololo hill.
2. The Hijri Family
The familynof Karim Hijri is with a net worth of $850million, they own hotels, with Karim Hijri being the breadwinner, who is also an entrepreneur and businessman.
Karim Hijri’s first company was known as Dembe enterprise and cirrently the Dembe Group of companies which includes a radio station, finance and insurance business,an amusement park, an imperial hotels group, to mention but a few, Karim Hijri is also the owner of the former bank towers which is currently the Cham towers.
3. The Karmali Family
With a net worth of $700million the family owns the Mukwano group of companies and is also led by Alykhan Karmali an entrepreneur, industrialist, and businessman.
Their Mukwano group of companies consists of agricultural industries, manufacturing industries, transportation and plants. The company has since its inception been supplying Ugandans with edible oil, magrine among others.
4. The Hamid Family
The family’s breadwinner Hamid owns an industrial conglomerate dealing with transportation and industrial processing and comprises of more than 5000 employees.
The family is with an estimated net worth of $400million.
5. The Mbire Family
With a net worth of $350 million, Charles Mbire as head of the family is a celebrated businessman and industrialist which has brought him into the lime light.
Carles Mbire has also participated in mny businesses including Alpine Pharmacy, MTN Uganda among others which account for his source of wealth.
Therefore, Uganda as a third world country has been reducing poverty at an impressive speed.
