Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has expressed his sympathies and condemned the attempted assassination of former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Trump was struck in the ear with bullet by 20 year old assailant during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a bystander was killed during the attack.

The suspected assailant, identified Thomas Matthew Crooks by FBI, was reportedly swiftly killed by Secret Service agents at the scene.

In a message shared on his X account, President Museveni conveyed his sympathies to the former US president and described the incident as a “despicable and cowardly assassination attempt.”

“On behalf of the Government and people of Uganda, and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deep and heartfelt sympathies to His Excellency. At the same time, I condemn this despicable and cowardly assassination attempt that put his life and that of his supporters at risk,” Museveni said on X.

Museveni also extended condolences to the family of the bystander killed during the attack, further stating that political violence in any form threatens democracy.
