National Unity platform ( NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and his entourage this afternoon were blocked from visiting National Unity platform (NUP) Politicial Prisoners at Kitalya Prison.
After being denied access, they were told by the officer on duty to first seek permission from commissioner General of Prison Dr Johnson Byabashaija.
In the post shared by Bobi Wine on his X account ,he said that the criminal regime has this afternoon blocked them from seeing their comrade brothers who are stuck at Kitalya Prison for over three years.
He further disclosed that the regime Officials are in position to access all their people and try to convince them to implicate them and themselves into crimes they never committed and yet they are shameless to block them from visiting their Politicial Prisoners.
“The criminal regime has this afternoon blocked us from seeing our comrade brothers stuck at Kitalya Prison for over three years. The officers on duty told us that they were following instructions from above. They told us that only Johnson Byabashaija, the Prisons boss can permit me to see all of them. The officer was honest and told us to get clearance from Byabashaija just like he permits regime officials to see them. We asked them under what law they’re implementing these illegal orders and there was none. The answer was simply, ‘Orders from above’. I even asked him why all other visitors were being allowed in to see their people and we were blocked. The officer simply said this order applied to NUP- without shame.
So regime officials are able to access all our people and try to convince them to implicate us and themselves into crimes they did not commit, and yet they are so shameless to block us from seeing them! The world can see how no institution in Uganda has been spared, and this is what our fight is about. We must free our nation and its institutions from capture.
Well, our demand remains that our people are released from detention unconditionally and compensated for all the trauma and torture – because they did not commit any offence.”,he wrote .
Several alleged NUP supporters were rounded up in various parts of Country before and during Uganda’s 2021 electoral season. Some have been reported in prisons, missing and others dead.
