Diana Museveni Kyaremera, the daughter of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has confirmed the end of her 18-year marriage with businessman Geoffrey Kamuntu. The announcement comes after efforts to keep the matter private, but Kyaremera felt the need to address the public, particularly for the sake of her children.
Presenting the “Decree Nisi” confirming the legal termination of her marriage, Kyaremera acknowledged the difficulty of divorce, especially when children are involved, underscoring the emotional toll of the process.
Despite the challenges, she appealed to the public for support during this trying time.
“I have tried to keep my divorce private and out of the public sphere for the sake of my children. However, I feel the need to clarify now,” Kyaremera stated.
The “Decree Nisi,” issued in 2022, marks the formal end of the marriage.
In the same year, Diana officially applied to the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to drop her husband’s name, “Kamuntu,” expressing her preference to be known as Diana Museveni Kyaremera.
As the managing director of Museveni family enterprises, overseeing all private ventures of the first family, Diana Museveni Kyaremera has been a prominent figure.
In addition to her business role, she has delved into acting, notably portraying the First Lady in the Ugandan film “27 Guns,” directed by her sister Natasha Karugire.
The couple, married on July 24, 2004, has three children – two boys and one girl. In a previous interview, Diana recounted meeting Kamuntu at her sister Natasha Karugire’s home and being drawn to his tall and handsome demeanor.
While Diana navigates the complexities of separation, she requested the public’s prayers and urged respect for her family’s privacy.
Geoffrey Kamuntu, the owner of a procurement firm specializing in consultancy services for oil exploration companies in the Albertine region, has interests allegedly tied to the Heritage Oil Company.
