Makindye East MP Derrick Nyeko has spoken out following his loss of the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket to contest in the 2026 parliamentary elections.
The party instead handed the flag to Ali Mulyanyama, the current Mayor of Makindye Division.
In a message addressed to his supporters, campaign team, and family, Nyeko called for calm and unity, emphasizing that his political journey has always been rooted in principles not personal ambition.
“Our strength has never only been measured by victories, but by our resilience, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the cause we believe in,” Nyeko said.
He reaffirmed his belief in integrity, justice, and public service, values he said would remain the cornerstone of his political life despite this setback.

Nyeko had initially announced he would not seek re-election, but later reconsidered and submitted himself for vetting before the party’s Elections Management Committee (EMC). The committee ultimately selected Mulyanyama as the party’s flagbearer for Makindye East.
In his concession, Nyeko urged his supporters to remain united and avoid internal divisions.
“The enemy will only celebrate if we allow ourselves to be divided. We will not give them that satisfaction. Our unity is stronger than any single defeat,” he stated.
He concluded with words of gratitude and reiterated his long-standing motto: “No corruption, no problems.”
Nyeko encouraged his followers to stay committed to the cause and continue pushing for the values he has championed throughout his time in Parliament.
His loss comes amid a wave of internal competition in NUP’s ongoing primaries, which have seen several incumbent MPs lose party flags to new contenders highlighting both local-level political shifts and the party’s broader efforts to recalibrate ahead of the 2026 elections.
