Museveni Earns CAF Praise For CHAN 2024 Hosting

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has commended President Yoweri Museveni and the people of Uganda for the successful organization and hosting of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which concluded last month.

The message of appreciation was formally delivered to President Museveni on Sunday evening by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among. Dr. Motsepe lauded Uganda’s hospitality and the smooth execution of the tournament.

Dated August 30, 2025, the note inscribed on a ceremonial pennant read:
“Thank you and the people of Uganda for your hospitality in hosting CHAN 2024 in Kampala.”

In response, President Museveni expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the collective effort that made the tournament a success.

“This evening, I received a message from Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, expressing appreciation for Uganda’s role in hosting CHAN 2024. The message was delivered by Rt. Hon. Anita Among,” President Museveni said in a statement.

He further extended thanks to key stakeholders:
“I want to thank the Local Organizing Committee, the Ministry of Education and Sports led by Maama Janet, and everyone who played a role in the successful hosting of the tournament. I also appreciate the enthusiastic fans who turned up in large numbers to support the matches.”

CHAN 2024, hosted in August, featured matches at the newly renovated Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, as well as venues in Kenya and Tanzania, under the PAMOJA initiative.

The event drew thousands of fans and was widely regarded as a milestone achievement for Uganda’s sports sector.

CAF’s commendation comes at a time when Uganda is ramping up preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Tanzania and Kenya.
