Churchill James Ssentamu, the current Guild President of Makerere University, has expressed interest in running for a parliamentary seat in Uganda’s 2026 general elections.

Ssentamu, who is the son of Chairman Nyanzi and a nephew to opposition leader Bobi Wine, shared his political ambitions during a candid interview with Mr. Henrie on Deep Talk.

In the conversation, Churchill said he is seeking divine guidance before officially launching his bid but made it clear that he envisions himself in Parliament next year.

“I have a decision to make, but I don’t think Parliament is too big a place for me. If God wills, we shall take it forward. I have the desire to do so in the upcoming 2026 general elections,” he stated.

When asked about the constituency he plans to contest in, Churchill said he would announce it at the appropriate time.

However, he ruled out Kawempe South, noting that his father is already eyeing that seat.

Churchill has been in the public spotlight in recent months not only because of his family ties and leadership at Makerere, one of Uganda’s largest universities, but also due to controversy.

He faced criticism after a photo of him with President Museveni, the “fountain of honor,” circulated online, sparking allegations that he was seeking support from the ruling party.
