Charles Bukenya Muvawala, the Vice President of the Uganda North American Association (UNAA), has resurfaced after two days of his abduction in Kampala.

Charles Bukenya Muvawala, who disappeared on Wednesday morning, was last seen outside a nightclub in Nakulabye area.

His sudden disappearance fueled suspicions that he might have been targeted by state agents, possibly due to his political connections.

He was found early this morning in a swamp in Buliisa District, visibly battered and showing signs of severe torture.

Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), confirmed that he had spoken with Muvawala, who described the traumatic experience he endured.

“I’ve just spoken to our comrade, Charles Muvawala, who was taken from the streets of Kampala after 1 a.m. on Wednesday. He had been missing until today. He was abandoned in a swamp in Buliisa earlier this morning after enduring hours of torture. He’s shaken by what happened. This is a stark reminder of the lawlessness our country faces, and we must unite to fight against it.”,Bobi Wine said.

Images shared on social media show Muvawala looking frail and marked by signs of physical abuse. While the details of his abduction and release remain unclear, the incident has sparked widespread outrage.

This abduction is the latest in a troubling trend of forced disappearances in Uganda, drawing sharp criticism from human rights organizations and opposition figures. Many are demanding accountability and justice for those behind such acts.

The incident also triggered reactions from Muvawala’s supporters within both NUP and UNAA. However, Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye denied any involvement. In an interview with NBS TV, he suggested that Muvawala’s abduction might be linked to challenges faced by Ugandan immigrants in the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s policies.

Despite these assertions, Charles Bukenya Muvawala’s supporters are rallying behind him, calling for justice and an end to the prevailing climate of fear and impunity in the country.
