Ten Kenya Defence Forces ( KDF) officers have lost their lives following a tragic incident involving a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter crash in the Sundar area of West Pokot today Thursday 18th April , as confirmed by County Commandant Peter Mulinge.
The ill-fated aircraft, reportedly carrying Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla, crashed shortly after taking off from the Cheptuel area.
Among the occupants were over ten senior commanders, including KDF Chief General Ogolla, who were on a security mission in West Pokot. Tragically, the helicopter caught fire upon impact, resulting in the loss of lives.
While two individuals managed to survive the crash, they were promptly airlifted by a second KDF aircraft. Despite the lack of an official statement on casualties, the gravity of the situation is evident.
The deceased general Francis Ogolla, who had served as the KDF Chief since his appointment by Ruto in April the previous year, had a distinguished career within the KDF, rising through the ranks to command the Kenyan Air Force in 2018.
Ruto’s decision to appoint Ogolla was met with some controversy, given his previous involvement in political matters, but Ruto defended his choice, emphasizing Ogolla’s qualifications and suitability for the role.
