Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Acting Defence Public Information Officer, Col. Chris Magezi, has launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, branding him “unserious, incompetent, and undeserving” of his position.
The fiery exchange erupted after Ssenyonyi criticised Magezi’s earlier remarks on the Gulu clashes involving security forces and NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
Speaking on Next Radio’s Big Talk, Col. Magezi said the incident had been “exaggerated and misrepresented,” arguing that the public was reacting emotionally instead of logically.
He added that Ugandans were “outraged because some individuals were beaten with sticks,” yet similar corporal punishment still happens in homes and schools.
This comment triggered Ssenyonyi, who blasted Magezi on X, saying the military cannot justify beating leaders and civilians by comparing it to parents disciplining children.
But Magezi hit back even harder.Posting on Thursday, the UPDF officer called Ssenyonyi a “blowhard” and accused him of hypocrisy.
“This guy is probably the most unserious, incompetent and undeserving LoP in Uganda’s political history… Hypocrite!” Chris Magezi wrote.
The exchange comes in the aftermath of dramatic scenes in Gulu, where security officers were captured on camera beating civilians and NUP supporters.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke later described the scenes as “unfortunate and undesirable,” but claimed Bobi Wine triggered the confrontation by allegedly diverting from the agreed campaign route.
