Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Shamim Malende, has been flown to Nairobi, Kenya for specialized medical treatment following recommendations from Ugandan medical experts.
The referral comes after multiple unsuccessful treatment attempts in Uganda
Sources confirm that Malende departed this morning aboard Uganda Airlines and is expected to be admitted to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
Her transfer was advised by Nsambya Hospital, where she has been receiving care for several months.
In a brief statement to the media, Malende revealed that she has been battling severe abdominal pain and related complications, which have left her extremely weak and unable to walk unaided.
The MP has faced recurring health issues over the past two years, undergoing multiple emergency abdominal surgeries. Despite treatment, her condition continues to relapse, leaving her physically exhausted.
Regarding her medical expenses, Malende noted that while part of the costs are covered by her parliamentary insurance, she personally handles the remaining bills.
She also expressed gratitude to her National Unity Platform (NUP) party leaders and members for their ongoing support and concern.
