Ugandan musician Douglas Mayanja, popularly known as Weasel Manizo, has been cautioned by the Uganda Police after a video emerged showing him physically assaulting a man suspected of attempting to break into his car.
According to reports, the incident occurred when Weasel allegedly caught the suspected thief in the act near his parked vehicle. Instead of handing the suspect over to law enforcement, Weasel and his associates reportedly beat the man severely, leaving him injured and bleeding.
A widely shared video on social media captures Weasel wielding a large rod, which he uses repeatedly to strike the suspect while demanding to know his name, origin, and motive for tampering with the car. The man’s cries for mercy appear to be ignored throughout the ordeal.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango confirmed that authorities had received and reviewed the footage. While he did not disclose whether criminal charges would be filed, he issued a stern warning against acts of mob justice.
“As police, we urge people like Weasel: if you catch someone red-handed trying to break into your car, don’t take the law into your hands. Report them to the nearest police station or local council authorities. If that person dies, you will be held responsible,” Onyango said.
Police reiterated the importance of reporting criminal incidents to the proper authorities instead of resorting to violence or vigilante justice.
