Popular Ugandan media personality and YouTuber Isaac Daniel Katende, widely known as Kasuku, has opened up about his decision to reject a job offer from Next Media.
According to Kasuku, the media house’s strict policy against employees running personal YouTube channels was the main deal-breaker.
Kasuku, the face behind Kasuku Live one of Uganda’s top entertainment YouTube channels, said shutting down the platform wasn’t an option, as it remains a major source of income and a key part of his brand.
He shared his perspective during a discussion on fellow media personality Haffy Powers’ recent move from BBS Terefayina to Next Media.
He pointed out that her new role would likely prevent her from continuing collaborative YouTube content with Kwefulukuta, a creator she’s often supported online.
Haffy Powers, formerly with Galaxy FM, is reportedly stepping in as the new co-host of Sanyuka TV’s morning show, replacing Precious Remmie. Remmie, who recently embraced motherhood with the birth of her child in May 2024, stepped away from the spotlight to focus on family. She also has an older son from a previous relationship.
In addition, he revealed that Next Media had once shown interest in acquiring rights to the popular Talk and Talk Show, which he co-hosts with Eddie Sendi, Batt Badru, and Jenkins Mukasa. Although discussions were initiated by Sendi, the team turned down the offer, feeling the deal didn’t reflect the show’s value.
Other media houses like Galaxy FM, CBS FM, and Beat FM had also expressed interest in the show, but none of those talks materialized into agreements. Talk and Talk continues to air every Saturday on Kasuku Live.
Aside from his YouTube work, Kasuku is also a regular on KFM’s Monday morning show with Brian Mulondo and Faiza Salima, and co-hosts a Friday show on Baba TV alongside Bajjo Events (Alfonse Mukasa).
