Three employees of MEI-LIN International Hotel have been remanded to Luzira Prison following allegations that they aided a suspect involved in the assault and robbery of musician and political mobiliser, Full Figure real name Jennifer Nakanguubi.
The suspects include: Juma Kakooza, Jessy Lugeya, and James Asiimwe appeared before Buganda Road Court on Thursday, where Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya ordered their remand as investigations continues.
Prosecutors allege that the trio knowingly helped Kennedy Nsubuga, who is currently wanted by police in connection with the incident, to evade arrest.
The attack reportedly occurred on August 29 along Kyadondo Road, as Nakanguubi was en route to a press conference organised by businessman Moses Kalangwa. She claims the assault was politically motivated and intended to intimidate her.
According to reports, the group responsible for the attack is allegedly linked to political figure Justine Nameere and her husband Kennedy.
Nakanguubi said that she was beaten, robbed of her phone and 500,000 shillings, and left with serious facial injuries. However, Nameere has however denied any involvement.
Kampala Metropolitan Police have registered the case as a robbery and confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Officers have visited the crime scene, interviewed witnesses, and launched a manhunt for the main suspect and any accomplices.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango stated, “The investigation is progressing, and those who aided the suspects to evade justice will also face the law.”
