UPDF’s Colonel David Byaruhanga Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in DRC

Colonel David Byaruhanga, commander of the 409 Brigade in Bondo, Arua District   passed away on Friday evening  at Nakasero Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in battle.

His death was announced by Captain David Kamya, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Public Information Officer for the 4th Infantry Division.

“I have received confirmation from our Division Commander, Major General Felix Busizoori, that we have lost our senior officer, Colonel David Byaruhanga.”,Captain David Kamya stated.

Reports indicate that Byaruhanga suffered bullet wounds while on frontline duty in eastern DR Congo. His passing is a significant loss to the 4th Infantry Division and the entire UPDF.

Throughout his service, Byaruhanga played a pivotal role in enforcing Presidential Executive Order No. 3, aimed at curbing the illegal charcoal trade in the Acholi sub-region.

He was also instrumental in efforts to stabilize Karamoja during military operations against the Karacuna warriors.

The UPDF has honored him as a hero. “May his soul rest in everlasting peace,” Captain Kamya added.
