Ugandan singer and former Nansana Municipality MP hopeful Big Eye StarBoss has dismissed claims that he joined politics in search of money.
Speaking during a recent TV interview, the Mango Juice Yoo hitmaker made it clear that his intention was to serve the people, not to fill his pockets.
Big Eye explained that music already gives him a strong platform to represent and speak for communities, adding that politics would only have boosted his voice further.
He shocked many when he revealed that he actually earns more from music than a Member of Parliament.
“The money I receive while singing is more than that of an MP. An MP gets 35 million a month, and their expenses are very high. There are shows I perform at for 10 million or 5 million. Even if I perform at two shows for 5 million each or 3 million, even 2 million I end the day with not less than 4 million,” Big Eye said.
He emphasized that public servicenot money motivated him to seek political office.
Big Eye, however, missed out on the National Unity Platform ticket, losing to media personality Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, and later chose not to run as an independent.
