Goodlyfe singer Douglas Mayanja, popularly known as Weasel Manizo, has taken to social media to address recent remarks made by female rapper Keko regarding their collaboration on the track “This Is How We Do.”

Originally recorded by Keko as a solo track, “This Is How We Do” was later remixed to include verses from both Weasel and his late musical partner, Radio.

In a recent interview, Keko revealed that her original version was already a hit and claimed she neither needed nor consented to a remix.

According to Keko, Weasel heard the song and decided to add his verse, with Radio following shortly after. She asserted that the remix was done without her involvement or approval.

“To be honest, I was not familiar with who Radio was at the time,I had recorded my song as a solo endeavor, and it had already gained traction. Weasel later added a verse, then Radio did too  all without consulting me or giving me a say in the matter.”,Keko said.

Keko also noted that although Radio approached her politely during the recording sessions, the overall process lacked her input and consent.

In response, Weasel expressed his disappointment over what he described as a lack of appreciation.

Taking to Facebook, he reminded Keko and fans that it was the remix  not the original  that propelled the track to greater success, notably earning Keko the Channel O Music Award for Most Gifted East African Video in 2011.

“Why are people so ungrateful sometimes?,the truth still remains we gave you a remix that won you the Channel O Award in 2011. Credit where credit’s due. Remixes shine, but originals pave the way. Don’t talk too much nonsense trying to discredit us.”Weasel wrote

The exchange has reignited conversation among fans about the importance of collaboration, consent in creative works, and recognition in the music industry.
