Police in Kampala are investigating a daring robbery involving two G4S security guards who allegedly stole Shs1.5 billion from a bullion van they were assigned to escort.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the guards were transporting cash from Lubowa to Nakasero when they conspired to rob the vehicle.
The bullion van, registered as UAJ 199T, was later found abandoned in Nabunya, Rubaga Division, with two rifles left inside.
Initial reports indicate that the thieves made off with Shs1.06 billion in Ugandan shillings and $14,474, totaling over Shs1.5 billion.
Following the robbery, police tracked down Richard Ambrose Otim in his home district of Kwania, where they discovered Shs117 million in his possession, believed to be part of the stolen funds.
