Kayesu Beth Nakunda has been officially confirmed as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Wakiso District Woman Member of Parliament, following a ruling by the NRM Elections Dispute Tribunal that upheld her victory in the party primaries.

The primaries, held on July 17, 2025, were marred by tensions stemming from missing declaration forms and delays in result tallying. Despite these issues, provisional results released the next day showed Kayesu in the lead with 46,792 votes, ahead of Radhiyyah Namakula (31,090 votes) and Rosemary Kirabira (24,867 votes).

Kirabira later filed a petition challenging the outcome, citing allegations of multiple voting, intimidation of her agents, restricted access to declaration forms, and inflated results in certain areas.

Her legal team argued the election violated principles of fairness and transparency and called for the results to be annulled or for her to be declared the rightful winner.

However, in its ruling delivered yesterday, the tribunal dismissed the petition, stating that the allegations were not sufficiently proven. While acknowledging some administrative irregularities in a few polling stations, the tribunal found that the election process was largely consistent with NRM electoral guidelines and upheld the principles of a fair contest.

Following the decision, Kayesu Beth Nakunda took to her social media platforms to express gratitude to her supporters, particularly the people of Wakiso, for their trust and patience. She called the victory a win for all who believe in strong, unifying leadership and pledged to work collaboratively with both allies and former rivals for the development of the district.

With the tribunal’s endorsement, Kayesu Beth Nakunda now heads into the 2026 general elections as the legitimate NRM candidate for the Wakiso Woman MP seat, bolstered by renewed confidence and party backing.
