Renowned Ugandan TV personality and events MC, Edwin Katamba popularly known as MC Kats has voiced his frustration on social media over what he calls unfair treatment by government officials concerning a Shs1.5 billion fund allegedly designated for MCs.
Kats shared that he was invited to a government office for a meeting but was later denied entry despite arriving at the scheduled time of 10 a.m.
“I’ve been here for two hours. They won’t let me in because they say I don’t have an appointment,” he said, noting that he had left home at 5 a.m. to attend the meeting.
With over 20 years in the entertainment industry, Kats accused the government of favoring politically connected individuals over hardworking youth.
“Now your people are taking Shs1.5 billion not us who have earned it. I’m 40 years old and have been entertaining people all that time. You just got jobs recently through connections,” he said angrily.
The NBS TV presenter also claimed that the funds were meant for political talk show hosts, but found no clarity even after consulting fellow journalists like Canary Mugume.
“That’s why Bobi Wine wins he may not give out money, but he gives people hope,” Kats added, drawing a contrast between the government and opposition leader Bobi Wine.
He made a direct appeal to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to ensure that MCs, especially in the central region and Mbarara, also benefit from such funds.
“I’m not here because I’m broke. I’m not rich, but I’m not struggling either. But I know many MCs who are. We work hard for our names and for this money,” he stated.
Kats’ outburst sparked mixed reactions online. While some sympathized with his concerns, others criticized him for expecting handouts and suggested he consider alternatives like farming. Some also accused him of name-dropping Bobi Wine for attention.
Despite the backlash, Kats insisted his concerns were not personal, but a call for fair and transparent distribution of public resources.
