Moses Hassim Magogo will continue to steer Ugandan football after securing another four-year term as president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

His re-election, unopposed, was confirmed during FUFA’s 101st Annual General Meeting held on Saturday at the Hoima Resort Hotel.

This marks Magogo’s fourth consecutive term since taking over in 2013 from Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, setting him on course to lead FUFA for up to 16 years an unprecedented tenure in Ugandan football.

The Hoima assembly also ushered in a new FUFA Executive Committee, blending familiar faces with fresh names. Justus Mugisha and Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi were retained as First and Third Vice Presidents, respectively. Dr. Twaib Azar, previously head of FUFA’s Judicial Bodies, was named Second Vice President, filling the vacancy left by the late Darius Mugoye.

New additions include Deo Mutabazi, chair of the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA), and Ronald Barente, chairman of BUL FC. Abdul Ssekabira Lukooya also returned to the committee, having served from 2017 to 2021, replacing Sam Mpiima.

Following his re-election, Magogo pledged to prioritize youth development and infrastructure, especially as Uganda prepares to co-host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“Our passion and commitment will only be new,” Magogo posted on X (formerly Twitter). “We will give the best of our abilities. Please work with us to achieve our set objectives.”

Magogo, an engineer and politician, has overseen major reforms in Ugandan football—including the professionalisation of domestic leagues, improved governance structures, and stronger continental presence. His influence was solidified in 2019 when he was elected to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee.

However, his continued unopposed re-elections have drawn criticism, with detractors questioning the competitiveness and transparency of FUFA’s electoral process. Some allege that his deep political ties particularly with Speaker of Parliament Hon. Anita Among and strategic alliances within the football community have made him virtually unchallengeable.

As FUFA enters a new term with a mix of continuity and new leadership, the spotlight turns to delivering on promises—especially in grassroots development and preparations for Uganda’s hosting duties on the continental stage.
