Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), officially succeeding Beti Olive Namisango Kamya Turwomwe, whose four-year term ended on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The appointment was confirmed by Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Mr. Farouk Kirunda, and marks a significant leadership change at the helm of the Inspectorate of Government ,the body mandated to uphold good governance, promote accountability, and combat corruption within public institutions.
Beti Kamya, who previously served as a minister and was once a vocal critic of President Yoweri Museveni’s administration, assumed the role of IGG on July 15, 2021, following the departure of Irene Mulyagonja to the Constitutional Court.
During her tenure, Kamya prioritized the enforcement of the Leadership Code and spearheaded public engagement in anti-corruption efforts, notably through initiatives like the Expose the Corrupt campaign.
Her deputies, Patricia Achan Okiria and Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, will continue serving in their respective roles under the new leadership.
Justice Naluzze brings with her a wealth of judicial experience from her time on the High Court bench. Her legal background is expected to enhance the Inspectorate’s investigative and oversight functions by reinforcing a rule-of-law approach to tackling corruption and promoting transparency.
As IGG, Justice Naluzze will lead the institution in authorizing and supervising corruption investigations, issuing reports and directives, summoning witnesses, authorizing prosecutions, and compiling IGG Parliamentary Reports, among other key responsibilities.
Her appointment reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional integrity and advancing anti-corruption reforms in Uganda.
