The National Media Group–owned radio station KFM has reportedly shown the exit door to veteran journalist and outspoken Museveni loyalist Andrew Mwenda, bringing an end to his long-running reign as one of the station’s most influential voices.

Mwenda, who hosted the highly-followed Friday Media Roundtable, had become a staple in Uganda’s current-affairs landscape. The show often likened to Kenya’s News Gang was praised for its sharp analysis, heavyweight debates, and unmatched depth.

Before his shift toward supporting President Museveni, Mwenda was celebrated as one of Uganda’s fiercest investigative journalists. His fearless reporting earned him court battles, threats, and several arrests over the years cementing his reputation as a no-nonsense media powerhouse.

In what seemed like his farewell note, Mwenda challenged mainstream media managers to reinvent themselves in an era where social media dominates the speed race.

He stressed that the survival of traditional media now depends on strong investigative journalism, deeper analysis, and storytelling that stands out not merely chasing breaking news.

While NGM management has remained tight-lipped about why Mwenda was dropped, insiders whisper that his political shift from government critic to open Museveni supporter may have clashed with NMG’s editorial stance. The media house has historically been at loggerheads with the ruling government over alleged biased coverage, making Mwenda’s alignment a possible point of friction.

Mwenda has not yet issued an official statement on his departure.
