Legendary Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone, real name Joseph Mayanja, has revealed that he is not part of President Yoweri Museveni’s ongoing political mobilization campaigns for money, but rather out of gratitude and loyalty.

Speaking during an interview, the Valu Valu hitmaker said he decided to support the NRM chairman without expecting payment because President Museveni cared for him when he was seriously ill.

“I’m not here for work or to be paid. I’m working for free because the President looked after me when I fell sick the first and second time. So it’s high time I also invest in him,” Chameleone said.

Chameleone added that his support for President Museveni goes beyond financial benefits, describing it as appreciation for the peace, stability, and opportunities the country has enjoyed under his leadership.

“I support President Museveni for many reasons, but above all, for maintaining peace and stability in the country. Most people who haven’t traveled abroad probably don’t realize how peaceful we are,” he added.

The singer in his pervious interview  opened up about his brief political shift to the National Unity Platform (NUP) , saying he joined the party out of love for his brother Bobi Wine but later realized it wasn’t the right place for him.

“I once went to NUP, but I realized I was lost not because of anything bad, but it just didn’t feel right. I joined because I loved Bobi Wine as my brother, but he didn’t care about me. So I went back to my father, President Museveni. I don’t hate Bobi Wine I love him and enjoy his music,” Chameleone said.

Now 46, the music legend says he feels valued in the NRM and intends to remain loyal to the party for life.

Chameleone has been a longtime supporter of Museveni, notably participating in the 2015 Tubonga Nawe project, which played a key role in the President’s re-election.
