With the leading Political Party which is the National Resistance Movement led by the President himself H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni President of The Republic of Uganda, there are several more political parties in the Pearl of Africa and these include:
1. National Resistance Movement (NRM)
The National Resistance Movement is a political party led by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the Chairman of the party which has been the ruling party since 1986.
National Resistance Movement was founded as a liberation movement which waged a war through its rebel wing National Resistance Army and according to the party, it restored political stability, Security, Law and order, constitutionalism alongside the rule of Law in Uganda.
2. Forum For Democratic Change( FDC)
Founded on 16th December 2004, the Party was founded as an umbrella body called Reform Agenda, mostly for disenchanted former members and followers of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with Kizza Besigye as a former close ally of President Museveni who was also a presidential candidate in the 2001, 2006, 20011 and 2016 general elections.
However, in November 2012, Mugisha Muntu was elected as President of FDC until November 2017 when he was defeated by Patrick Oboi Amuriat who is the current party president.
3. National Unity Platform (NUP)
Formerly the National Unity, Reconciliation and Development Party, the National Unity Platform is a political party in Uganda led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu which is also considered to be the biggest opposition party in Uganda.
4. Democratic Party (DP)
A moderate conservative political party in Uganda led by Nobert Mao. The Democratic Party was formerly led by Paul Semwogerere for a period of 25 years until he retired in November 2005, replaced by John Sebaana Kizito until February 2010 when Nobert Mai was elected president of the Party.
5. Conservative Party
Led by Ken Lukyamuzi, the Conservative Party is a centre right political party in Uganda which was officially founded in 1966 and preceded by Kabaka Yekka.
The above are the strongest parties in Uganda with a motive to oppose the leading party National Resistance Movement led by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and take over power.
