Ugandan singer Deus Nduggwa, popularly known as Grenade Official, has been released from detention in China and is reportedly en route back to Uganda.
The artist was arrested in Beijing over the weekend for allegedly breaching Chinese immigration regulations by performing at several events while on a tourist visa, a violation of the country’s strict visa policies.
The news of his arrest first emerged when his management team issued a statement on social media confirming his detention.
According to his manager, Joram Mukisa, Grenade had traveled to China on a tourist visa but performed at a show without obtaining the required work permit, which is against Chinese immigration law.
Grenade was released on Monday, June 16, 2025. Shortly after his release, he took to social media to share a brief message of gratitude with his fans, writing: “God is good. Am free.”
