Senior government figure and NRM flag bearer for Adjumani West, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, has been advised to keep off campaign activities and take time to rest after returning from a month-long medical trip in Germany.

Although the 86-year-old has not been physically active on the campaign trail, his team has continued rallying support across the constituency, pushing his key promises among them establishing a Health Centre IV in Adjumani Town and lobbying for Municipality status.

Gen. Ali, who also serves as Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, has represented Adjumani West for four consecutive terms. He insists he still has more to offer in national leadership.

A towering figure in Uganda’s political history, Ali first entered government in 1971 during the coup that toppled Milton Obote. He later became Finance Minister, but was dismissed in 1978 and fled to South Sudan.

In the 1980s, he led the Uganda National Rescue Front in a rebellion against Obote’s reinstated government. Following the NRA takeover in 1986, Ali negotiated with President Yoweri Museveni and was integrated into the then-NRA, now UPDF—marking the start of his long service in government.

His supporters now hope that even as he rests, the groundwork laid by his campaign team will keep his bid for another term alive.
