Veteran Ugandan DJ and media personality Benjamin Owor, better known as DJ Bush Baby, will be buried this Sunday at his ancestral home in Tororo, his family has announced.
Owor, aged 50, was found dead on Tuesday at a family residence in Bugonga, Entebbe Municipality, where he had been staying.
According to family members, he was discovered in his private room after his wife’s repeated attempts to reach him by phone went unanswered.
A postmortem is currently being conducted at Mulago National Referral Hospital to determine the cause of death.
Julie Otage, a close family friend and colleague of Owor’s widow, recounted the tragic moment.
“She had asked him to pick up their child from school, but he wasn’t responding. That’s when she asked someone at home to check on himand they found he had passed,” Julie said .
Despite earlier speculation that he died in his studio, relatives clarified that Owor was found in his bedroom.
At the Bugonga residence, journalists were not permitted to enter or take photographs, as the family came to terms with the sudden loss.
Police in Entebbe have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, pending the outcome of the autopsy.
A vigil will be held tonight at the Kira home of Owor’s sister, followed by a requiem mass on Saturday. His body will then be transported to Tororo for Sunday’s burial.
