For the past week, social media and entertainment circles have been abuzz with claims that Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz received 750 million Ugandan shillings for his performance at the Coffee Marathon held in Ntungamo.
The rumored figure sparked widespread criticism, particularly from local artists and the public, who questioned the government’s spending priorities.
But Ugandan music icon Bebe Cool, who also performed at the event, has come forward to set the record straight.
Speaking out, he denied the reports, insisting that while Diamond was indeed well-compensated, the alleged UGX 750 million was an exaggeration.
“That figure is completely false,Yes, Diamond was paid well, but not anywhere close to 750 million. Some people are deliberately inflating the number to stir controversy.”Bebe Cool said.
He further clarified that artist payments were based on their market value, branding, and overall influence.
Bebe Cool further encouraged local musicians to invest in their craft and image to command higher performance fees like their international counterparts.
