The Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, despite confirming that he had met all the legal requirements.

Mufumbiro, who is charged with incitement to commit an offence, appeared before the court on Thursday where his lawyers argued that all his sureties were substantial and within the law.

However, the court ruled otherwise, stating that it was “not convinced that Mufumbiro would desist from acts likely to disrupt public order” if granted bail.

The outspoken opposition politician remained calm as the ruling was delivered, while his legal team expressed disappointment, describing the decision as unfair and politically influenced.

Mufumbiro is also battling another case before the Kawempe Magistrate’s Court in Kanyanya, where he faces charges of unlawful drilling.

The prosecution alleges he engaged in unauthorized public mobilization activities that violated public order laws.

He has since been remanded until further notice as his supporters continue to demand his release.
