Makerere University Guild President Churchill Ssentamu, who also happens to be a nephew to National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine, is facing possible disqualification from the Central Region Youth Member of Parliament race.

This comes after a group of Makerere University students petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC), accusing Ssentamu of forging signatures during his nomination.

The petition, led by lawyer Namakajo Deric Fredric, alleges that Ssentamu, who is running as an independent candidate, submitted nomination forms containing names and signatures of students who say they never endorsed him.

“We were shocked to see our names appear on his list of endorsers, yet we never signed or consented to support his candidature,” Namakajo stated.

The students argue that the act amounts to forgery and impersonation, which is against electoral laws and ethical standards governing youth elections.

They are now demanding the EC toVerify all signatures on Ssentamu’s nomination papers, take disciplinary action if the allegations are confirmed and also disqualify him from the race if found guilty.

The Electoral Commission has since confirmed receiving the complaint and says a review is underway before issuing a final decision on Ssentamu’s eligibility.

It should be remembered that Ssentamu chose to contest as an independent instead of seeking the NUP ticket despite his strong family ties within the party.

We shall keep you posted as the story continues to develop. Stay tuned!
