The late Cedric Babu, son of veteran National Resistance Movement (NRM) politician Capt. Francis Babu and media personalitxy, will be laid to rest on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the family’s ancestral home in Kamengo, Mpigi District.
According to the official burial program shared by the Babu family, prayers will be held at Cedric’s residence on Fumu Close in Kololo from Sunday, June 1, through Tuesday, June 3, starting at 5:00 PM each evening.
On Wednesday and Thursday, a special mass will take place at Capt. Babu’s home in Naguru at 6:00 PM, followed by a night vigil beginning at 8:00 PM.
A requiem mass is scheduled for Friday, June 6, at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala. Later that evening, Cedric’s body will be transported to Kamengo for another vigil ahead of the burial on Saturday.
The nation continues to mourn Cedric Babu’s passing, with tributes pouring in from high-ranking officials and friends.
The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, led the tributes, describing Cedric as a dear friend, patriot, and a man of exceptional talent.
“I join the family of Capt. Francis Babu in mourning the loss of my brother, close friend, and comrade Cedric Babu, who passed away in Nairobi, Cedric had a wide array of talents. He was particularly passionate about sports, excelling in tennis and ranking among Uganda’s finest players”.,Gen Muhoozi posted on X.
Gen Muhoozi also highlighted Cedric’s loyalty to the ruling party, noting his unwavering dedication even after losing in the general election following his NRM primary victory for Kampala Central.
“Cedric was a forward-thinker, always optimistic about a better future. He is survived by a wife and three sons, all of whom share his love for sports, it was because of these qualities that I appointed him Vice Chairman for Kampala on the Central Committee of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).”he added
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among extended her sympathies to the Babu family, praying for strength and comfort during this period of grief.
“I send my heartfelt condolences to Capt. Francis Babu and all loved ones. May the Lord grant you strength and may Cedric’s soul rest in eternal peace,” she said.
Deputy Speaker Hon. Thomas Tayebwa echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging Cedric’s achievements in sports, business, and politics.
“He was a true patriot and nationalist. While many children of Uganda’s elite shy away from politics, Cedric had the courage to serve and contribute to national governance,” Tayebwa remarked.
