Uganda’s Opposition Leader and NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has once again raised the heat in the 2026 race, claiming that the government is plotting to rig the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the press on Thursday before heading to Kayunga for his campaign trail, Bobi Wine said his team has “reliable information” that security agencies are planning to provoke chaos and later impose a curfew ahead of voting, similar to what happened during the 2020 unrest.

He revealed that the matter is already being shared with the international community, regional blocs, and the African Union.

Kyagulanyi also took aim at Electoral Commission boss Simon Byabakama, accusing him of staying silent on alleged illegalities. He insisted that if the EC cannot guarantee transparency, Byabakama should step aside.

He further linked these alleged preparations to police violence targeting his campaign activities, claiming that officers have fired tear gas at peaceful gatherings and applied double standards against opposition candidates while giving ruling NRM candidates leeway.

Despite everything, Kyagulanyi promised to push on with his nationwide campaigns.

“We shall remain law-abiding and reach every corner of the country as planned,” he said.

Meanwhile, authorities have dismissed his claims, arguing that the NUP has a record of violating campaign guidelines. Police have previously accused the party of blocking highways with unauthorized convoys, vandalizing police cars, attacking officers, and defying agreed routes.

The Electoral Commission has urged all candidates to follow the rules and said it will address any verified misconduct by security agencies or political actors.
