Renowned events promoter Biggie Events, real name Mariam Mutakubwa, is officially a free woman after spending over a week in Luzira Prison over a UGX 70M unpaid loan case.
Biggie reportedly borrowed more than UGX 70 million from a money lender identified as Tumusiime David Amooti, hoping to invest it in one of her major events. Unfortunately, the event did not bring in the expected profits, leaving her unable to clear the loan as agreed.
With the payment plan failing, the money lender dragged her to court, and she was remanded to Luzira to serve a six–month sentence.
However, shortly after her imprisonment, several big names in the entertainment industry stepped in to support her. Singers Spice Diana and Ameria Nambala, among others, contributed funds to help settle part of the loan.
After negotiations with the lender, an agreement was reached and part of the money was cleared, paving the way for Biggie’s release on Friday evening.
Speaking after regaining her freedom, Biggie Events expressed deep gratitude to fellow promoters, artists, family, and fans who stood by her.
She humorously added,
“Luzira felt like a holiday for me. The discipline is high and everyone is treated equally.”
The events community is now celebrating her return as she looks forward to bouncing back stronger.
