Kamya’s political journey kicked off in the early 2000s under the Reform Agenda pressure group, where she became known for her fearless and outspoken character.

When FDC was launched in 2004, Kamya was among its founding members and served as a special envoy to party president Dr. Kizza Besigye. She became known for her sharp critiques, especially warning against sectarian tendencies in national politics.

But in a dramatic shift, Kamya later crossed to the ruling NRM, where she praised President Museveni’s leadership and even vowed to mobilize Kampala votes for him in the 2021 elections.

Despite losing the Kampala MP race, Kamya went on to serve as:

Current President of Uganda: Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

Minister for Kampala

Minister of Lands, Housing & Urban Development

Inspector General of Government (from 2021)

Her latest appointment as Presidential Advisor on General Duties cements her continued presence in Uganda’s political circles.
