Ugandan singer Allan Toniks has publicly criticized media personality and deejay Sheilah Gashumba for consistently promoting foreign music while overlooking local talent.
The backlash follows a recent social media post by Sheilah in which she heaped praise on Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz.
She claimed he deserved VIP treatment at the Coffee Marathon Concert due to his exceptional branding, even suggesting that no Ugandan artist could measure up to his standard.
Toniks responded with a pointed message on his social media, expressing his frustration with Sheilah’s comments.
Allan Toniks accused her of habitually favoring Nigerian and South African music over Ugandan artists, calling her actions dismissive of local talent.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank SheilahGashumba for doing so much to support and build Nigerian and South African music in Uganda,” Toniks wrote, lacing his message with sarcasm.
“We truly appreciate your efforts. Uganda owes you a debt of gratitude for advancing the arts and entertainment industries of other countries here while simultaneously belittling Ugandan talent. #sellout,” he added.
His remarks have ignited widespread discussion online. While some social media users support Toniks’ stance and call for greater appreciation of homegrown talent, others argue that international stars like Diamond Platnumz represent a level of excellence that deserves recognition.
